This is a review for the Rena Smartfilter 55. Purchased this filter from Amazon last week. Arrived Tuesday, set it up on Wednesday, returned it to Amazon today(Thursday). This "filter", for lack of a better term, is an absolute piece of garbage. Why, you ask?

1) 1st off, it just is cheaply designed. It feels like it would break in your hands. Made from low-grade plastic. Parts do not quite fit together.

2)The leveling pegs in the back of the filter do not lock into place; I found this out as I came down to a 1/3 empty tank, as the water then leaked onto the floor, due to the filter being @ a 45 degree angle!!

3) The motor unit is designed to pull out of the filter easily, for cleaning, we are told in the manual. But, the motor then comes off of the impeller housing, & does not go back together easily or snugly. Poor design.

4)It is LOUD. You can hear the impeller rotaing in the housing. Gives off a very distinct "knocking" sound. Again, poor design.

5) I feel this was rushed to market when made. Made w/ cheap plastic & poorly designed. Looked like a good idea, as it promised "canister-like performance", & I have a Rena XP4, which I like. Avoid this filter like the plague. I give it 0 stars out of 5; it's just pure garbage.

Pic so you know what to avoid:

Rock,
Well price for 1; I got it for $40 on Amazon; it looked like a neat idea w/ the 3 stages of filtration, & Rena USUALLY makes good equipment. Usually; this one is quite literally a piece of junk.
