I am keeping my Oscars in a planted tank.
Low-light plants are the way to go, in my honest opinion, to respect Oscars' preference of dimmed tanks. Also, if you want impeccable planted aquascaping you might not get it. Oscars will do "their thing" at some time. It's their tank anyway.
I have found potted plants to do better than those directly planted in the substrate. They eventually move the pot but ignore the plants.
My success so far:
Anubias Barteri
Vallisneria (dwarf variety)
Tropical Hornwort (two varieties)
Hygrophila (two weeks doing good)
Floating plants (water lettuce, water orchid, duckweed, also for two weeks)
My failures so far:
Swords (chomped, uprooted, turned into debris)
Anubias Afzelii (vanished)
Pepe
Santo Domingo
I believe with a higher WPG Anacharis might make it. I tried them and except for insufficient lighting, they survived the Oscars.
Be ready to clean filter intakes more often than you are used to. Some Oscars may not tolerate any plants in their tanks. Hope yours do.
