I will have to get some bamboo then :)

I've also heard quite a bit of talk about this plant called: Pothos. They put the plant outside of the aquarium but let the roots stay in the water, where it absorbs the nitrates.

The green plant in your filters Jnet is called philodendron. As for the tradescantia, aka plant by the inch or wandering Jew, I know very well.

The bamboo I have in my tank is also sold as lucky bamboo. As for the graden varirty I can not speculate on if it could be used in the tank settling.

OrangeO I know your plant Pothos too and you are correct that it likes wet feet and I am sure it would do well if placed in a filter situation. Another nice house plant.

yea lucky bamboo isnt the same as garden bamboo and I dont think that will work it doesnt like waterlogged soil. In my pond I have a water mint; would this be safe in a tank? the pond fish dont seem to mind it.

If the water mint you are talking about is Mentha aquatica then yes is does like wet feet and I am sure you could try it in your filters like your philodendron and trandscantia but I would be more incline to find true aquatic species of plants that grow when emersed in water rather then have to grow above the water level.

Beautiful tanks!! I was just telling my husband yesterday that after we get our O moved out into a bigger tank, I want to turn our 55g into planted tank with some small tropicals such as neon tetras and bala sharks. :woohoo:

We have had our Groucho (Tiger O) for over a year now...have watched him grow from 2 inches to pushing 11 inches! LOVE watching him swim around in his little 55 gal world. We also have a fancy goldfish and a black moor in a separate tank. We love our fishies!...[IMG]

Small Fry, Nice Planted Tank. I like the bamboo, did they used to be smaller and then just flurished to the point where they have grown out of the top of the tank?

I have wanted to try a planted tank with Discus for quite a while, just haven't pulled the trigger. Instead i end up with these Large aggressive cichlids that will moe down anything in its way, plants, fish, etc...

...................................

Jnet, cool purple plant. im surprised that did well in your tank; hadn't heard of that type. (I have only tried goldon pothos).

Hey Jenn and Cebosound thanks for your comments on my tank. I bought the bamboo that size and just added it a few days ago but I have talked with others that have done this and they had good success with it. Good luck on your planted tank when you get around to it.
Jenn I would caution putting bala sharks in a 55g since that will be to small once they are full grown. They are a schooling fish so small groups should be tanked together and once they reach maturity they need a min tank size of about 125g. This is just what I have read. My buddy has 3 bala's in his 100g and they are getting very big and making his tank look small for them.

Cebosound if you have questions on plants in the future I might be able to help you out and if I don't know I will find out for you :)
