hey guys can you help me with something?
I want to make blackwater amazon biotope..
I bought a one more new tank and I m thinking of buying 5-6 red belly piranhas..
and I want a natural looking setup for them(sand, leaves, woods and other things)
so I heard that if I want to make blackwater, the best thing is the leaves and wood of the oak..is that true?do you guys know for another metod...?

yea you want oak leafs but not english oak they have to be the bigger more spiky ones not sure why. :) Also there are the almond leafs or others I think called cappa cant remember but you can buy off ebay. I just get the leafs from outside my house and boil them up.

Any bogwood looks good but you want more branch types, and then sand, river pebbles that kind of thing as substrates and then low moss type plants and softer lighting my tanks are kind of semi black water.

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

I just leave mine in the bath over night in hot water and then leave them in the tank they are a bit floaty for about 3mnths but now I cant get the thing out. :)

The the tannins still leak two years after buying :) But not as bad but I actually like the tannins so I have added more wood and the oak leafs to make up the colour better. :)

...completely off topic (I've been lurking because I'm keen on a blackwater setup for my tank as well), but I really like your new picture, Jnet.

One note:
Blackwater can change the pH quite a bit, make sure to test it!!!
I love blackwatertanks ,esp. for pleco's.
But keep an eye on the ph! ;)
