jnet created the topic: tank just plants no fish? how long?

thats was hard to write a title for :)

So what I mean is Im going to turn my 30gal tank into a planted tank, so I want to keep it running but without any fish in it will I loose my cycle? Or will it be ok, I was thinking of transfering water from the tanks with fish in. But I want to do this slowly whilst keeping the filters going, there might not even be an issue here and Im over thinking again. :)

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

You plants need CO2, light, and food (liquid fertilizer).

You can always use a couple goldfish or minnows to keep your cycle.

add ammonia (no perfume or scents). People with planted tanks do fishless cycle as well.

Or let fish food rot in the tank (few pellets) a week

I know a lot of people even people that have been keeping fish a lot longer than I have say food alone but I have but added fish i have always worried about a bacteria bloom with nothing to eat the food. Or did I misunderstand? I thought it was the fish waste that that the good bacteria ate.

Ill just put some food in then and it should be all good :)

I dont want to put fish in because they will eat my plants and I know Im going to be doing a lot of rearranging I feel. :) Already stole some plants from my mums tank as I know its been setup years and has no Whitespot ;) Im quarantining plants anyhow never can trust parents fully you know. We did a plant deal she had poppies for her garden and I had plants for fish, they are the anubius or however spelt ones so good startes I feel :)
