I have put a bid on some riccia I know it might not work out as it needs alot of light but I have seen it in low lighted tanks and its only going for a couple of quid for quite a bit. I would like some kind of carpet spreading.

Can I go ahead setting this up with the geo fry still in tank?

I want to get the lay out sorted as I have it in my head and want it in the tank. :)

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

it's worth trying, definitely, because it would look great. I had some dwarf hairgrass in mine, but that didn't make it - I think there's just too little light in the lower parts of the tank for a carpet plant in my case.

Do you have a light on tank or just open top?

I do have a light, I have a compact fluorescent tube (cool daylight - better choice for plants than the other colour spectrums, apparently). I have about 2 watts a gallon (18watt bulb, 7 gallon tank).

With an open top, I'd be too worried about fish jumping out.

yea I was thinking betta can jump out of tanks and they often do. Mine kept jumping out of their bowls.

But thats quite alot of light then, I was thinking you had a setup without lights and was thinking thats kind of good :)

If I add sand, mud substrates will it upset the geo fry?

I don't see much way to do it without emptying the tank. If you just pour mud into a tank you'll get a pretty bad mess. But you could probably (if this is your old, well soaked mud) do it all in a matter of half an hour - fish into bucket, drain, mud in, sand cap, water in, fish back into tank.

Then plant all around the fish.

Won't the geos dig it all up, though?

the fish are only like cm they wont grow and some are dying. To be fair I dont know whats wrong with them. They were born in may time they should be 3inches or more by now.

Yea I was going to put them in bucket add soil, wood and shape and then replace fish. I have only the moss at moment and some anubias so it wouldnt be alot of plants.

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

sounds like a good plan.

I remember you made a thread about these guys. I'm sorry that there's no better help for you.

We need a 'miracle cure all' for our fish.

with plant feeds; what is likely to be toxic? I have some bonsei soluable feed was wondering whether I could mix with substrate? Or just play it safe and get aquatic stuff.
