UNC-CH created the topic: My first planted tank - pics

I decided to try my first planted tank while my other tanks were undergoing their 2nd treatment for camallanus. There's a betta, ottocinclus, 3 cherry red shrimp, 2 other shrimp (ghost? ), and 2 snails (golden and mystery) in this 10 gallon. The substrate is flourite and I and a air pump sponge filter. About the plants ... I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know the names of any of them except for the java moss and compacta. I'm not even sure if that's bamboo or lucky bamboo. It would be great to get the names from you guys. I can post other pics if need be. -mike

Very cool! That betta looks big how old is he?

Also, that plant with the silver in the leaves isn't fully aquatic. It will start to fall apart on you soon.

He does look big in that pic. But he's normal sized ... about 2" head to tail. He's just got long fins plus I managed to snap a pic at the right moment getting him in focus.

Yeah! That plant did go bad (I'm thinking you mean the one in middle). It started growing roots everywhere and looked terrible so I took it out. I put the banana plant in its place but the golden snail keeps moving it ... crawling under it. I don't know if the snail actually moves it or if the plant keeps re-rooting itself in a different spot, but if I move it back he'll crawl under it first thing it seems.

I bought one from my lfs and it rotted away in a few days. The. I did some reading and saw it shouldn't be full aquatic.
