osxg4 created the topic: Hith

Hi I got a 2 10" oscar & 1 12" reddevil with hith I treated it before with API general care but the problem never really went away this time I'm trying it again should I leave the fish in the medication longer than what the instructions say or should I add more medication to the water or should I take them out of the hospital tank for couple days and then start the whole process over again

Hello, is it possible to take a photo so we can see?

Also, have you tested your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH? I know that it seems like we are being repetitive, but hole in the head is often caused by poor water conditions. It's imperative that's before you medicate an aquarium you first make sure that the water is in good condition.

How big is your aquarium and what sort of filtration are you using?

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

The root cause of hith is stress. That stress is most often induced by poor water quality. Bullying, cramped quarters, poor quality diet all contribute to hith. Meds don't cure hith, addressing the causes does, and it most often begins and maintains with clean water. Answering the OFL Admin's questions would be a great starting point
