I actually just put my pathos plants in a HOB filter on my tank today. I did a nitrate test and got about 20ppm. Let's see where it's in a week!

I'd sleep on the floor for more tank space!

My Grandma and em have been growing these for years and never knew the name of it. we had inherited it from past family. I had used it in my aquarium filter system now for a long time. About 2 months. I saw instant growth in the plants. They did really well. My nitrate levels also balanced out. I have enough extra filter systems hanging around that I need to make a new one for my new tank. I just haven't had the time yet.

i sold the 2 tanks i had the 2 plants in. (as many of you should know by now) .... and i put both plants in a pot with soil. the plants have been doing suprisingly well. its like they are having to learn to live all over again.

thanks for posting .. i didnt know .. i havent been around much .. the lag on this website makes me mad and usually end with me leaving the website saying "laggy P.O.S" so this is really the only thread ive been watching

brandon and shadows keep us up todate and remember we like pic. s :D

UPDATE:
that cutting i buried in gravel has been there for ( i dunno look it up in this thread)
about 2 months or more .. it looks to be doing fine .. its even started to grow a new leave but after i pulled it out and looked at it .. its starting to turn light green

might not be enough nutrition in my gravel or its unable to get to the nitrates from being buried .. well give it another month or 2 and see how it goes

Hahaha! I will...when I get the time to set up my new one I will Why are you putting hte plant in gravel? Just so everyone know nitrates are the same all the way across...maybe different forms or compounds Im not a chemist...but plants like nitrates...they put it in fertilizer....so really this is a form of hydroponics...its like super fertilizer...for the plants and the amount of water keeps the nitrates from being to strong and chemical burning the plants. I have seen some people use hydroponics with an aquarium the same like this but not with pothos (the vine) but with tomato plants. And the tomatoes were nice and the plants healthy.

scfalconry posted some pic of folks burying pothos in their tanks
few pages back

i wanted to see if it would hold up over a period of time
some plant like anubis get "stemrot " if they are buried

now that a have a few cutting with roots. im gonna bury the roots and see if that works better than cuttings.

its a pretty big deal really if u see how much giant anubis broadleaf plants go for
compared to a 6-12 dollar plant from the store

Just did some research and from what I have found it said that Pothos will only grow and survive cmpletely submerged for about 6 months tops! That killed that idea for me.

It will do just fine in the HOB filter with leaves being able to breathe. Just fully submerged there may be complications...I used to grow this stuff in jars in my room for years and months without ever planting it. But I personally like the HOB setup. I would mount it on a sump tank and have that going along with everything else. It would truly just about complete the biocycle. But at least it would lessen the amount of nitrates in the water so when you do water changes it is more effective.
