My current filter hanging on the back does 330gph. I would like to increase that obviously.
The only real question I have at this point is specifically which pump should I use?

Look for a pump that will give you about 6 or 7 times turnover rate (unless you have messy cichlids, like Malawi fish, then shoot for 10 times, or you aren't planning on having any mechanical filtration in there, in which case slower is fine too). Eheim makes excellent pumps, and I'm still very impressed with the SICCE pump I bought recently (too soon for me to give it as enthusiastic a recommendation as the eheims).

I will definitely be doing some overflows, wet/dry, and sumps. I cannot promise how long this will take me, but I will subscribe to this thread, and post updates.

I am quite mechanically inclined, but any suggestions, and pointers would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Keep it simple. Rather than buying acrylic and gluing them together, you can always use plastic storage bins to make a sump. Head down to Walmart (without the kids or hubby). Get lighting egg crate as a separator (lowes, home depot, dixieline should carry them)

I always wait till the local stores have a dollar per gallon sale. I've got both of my sump tanks that way.

Of course, I'm thinking really hard of building a 390g "L" shaped tank out of acrylic... But the more I think about it, the more I think I'll do a plywood tank. Either way, it'll be based of Joeys builds.
