Rocksor created the topic: Best Type of Wood for Making a Stand

I'm looking to create a stand for a 220g acrylic tank (72x24x30). The question I have is which type of wood should I be using? Pine, Oak, Maple, birch? I've seen different stands using various types of wood, and want to know the PROS and CONS of each type.

for my 125gal diy stand i used white pine for framing then 3/4 OSB plywood for the tank to sit, and 1/4 in plywood paneling for the paneling in and all put together with 2 1/2 in screws and paneling nails.

also white pine is very strong ,cheap, and can be cut easier then hard wood.

Nice stand. Is your 125g glass or acrylic?

Can 2 average size people carry that behemoth?

Yep. Pine is sturdy and light. Just make sure that you put enough braces.
