rebeldawg124009 created the topic: diy plywood tank...?

i been looking around and seen where peoples making plywood tanks from plywood, few studs, screws, rubber coating and a piece of glass. just got me thinking about trying to build one but i have a couple of 8ft by 4ft sheets of fiberglass 1/4in thick ... i was thinking plywood and lining it the fiberglass sheets and get the glass for the veiwing front....... my question is do yal think its a good idea. as it would be built for my parents bar/ club on a cement to ground floor 6in thick " so weight doesnt matter lol" it would be roughly in US mes. 8ft L, 4ft W and 4ft H what thickness of glass would i need to be good?

When I said we need a bigger tank for Giant Gourami I was looking at customs and my parter suggested this also. But I havent a clue how to use fiberglass there are loads of vids on youtube but I'm not very clued up on DIY even though I work in DIY shop lol.

Not sure on whats best Acrylic or glass but best to go with what ever other people are using. I'll try and find a good link video for you.

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

An inch or better....
I have a site that I use for calculating glass thickness, and it recommends not going over 24in tall when your length is 96in...
So the calculations I used were
96l x 48w x 24t.... That works out to 480g...

I would make damn sure you know what you are getting into and that the tank is secure.. That is a LOT of water to have on the floor...

Do a test run in the backyard or garage, where spillage won't matter.
