EdgeX600 created the topic: Painting The Back of the tank

So I have been throwing ideas around in my head on what to do with the back pane of glass on my spare 55, Was thinking about just leaving it blank, and even thought about buying one of those like premade back rounds. However now i've decided I should probably just paint the back of it.

So my question is. How should I go about doing it? Just tape everything off cover the top and other panes of glass and go to town or?

Also I was thinking Black for the color. or maybe blue. what do you guys think will look better?

I have been thinking of doing the same with my spare 55 to see how it would look. maybe after your done you could post some pics :)

Personally I would go with Black. and If you use those blue lights they would really stand out. :)

Use painters tape that way it wouldn't leave any tape residue.

I'm not sure, but I would think you'll need to use a primer too, unless you want to sand the glass itself.

tbh, I'd personally much rather just adhere a colored vinyl or something (or very very dark window tint), but I'm sure you have your reasons.

I tend to like black, but some of the blue backings I've seen look great too. Tough choice. If it were me I guess it would depend on the fish. Things with brighter &/or more varying colors (discus/ebjd's) I'd prob. go w/ the blue, otherwise I'd stick w/ black. Just my 2c though.

edit: just thought maybe you could use some kind of a liquid latex? That way if you want later you can just peel it off.

Gonna hopefully pick up 2 cans of Flat Black spray paint tomorrow. And if the weather is good will get started on it. Thinking its gonna take at least 3-4 coats.

Will try to take pictures of the progress

If you use this paint, take slow even coats. And you will have to wait 10 minutes and then coat again. I think I did my last one 5x... But it looks good and dries fast.

And thanks ;)
