SethE created the topic: Building a Stand
I'm fixing to build a inexpensive stand for my 55 gallon 4 foot long by 13 inch wide fish tank.
Plans were 15 cinder blocks. 6 on left and right side that stack up the 3 tall. Then 3 in the middle going up in a column. Not sure what type of wood if any to put below it, not sure what can support the weight with out breaking down. But plans were to 2 cinder blocks right and left side, with them side by side. 1 middle the put a piece of thick plywood, then run a piece of 2x4 or some type of wood as such threw them and glue/nail it to the plywood top and bottom. Then put 4 cinder blocks on both sides and 2 in the middle with 2x4's or a wood like it with a thicker piece of ply wood on the top nailed/glued to it. Sand it all down and paint the wood, and maybe box the blocks in with ply wood and sand it and paint it all a color and maybe polyurethane it all should be 4 foot long 2 foot wide. Kind of a work in progress to figure out the exact details but i came up with this from someone else idea i just changed it some to make the weight distribute more to protect from tipping.
You can probably find a picture of his online, But anyways if anyone has any suggestions to my build, or maybe tips, or something let me know, Ill post pictures of when its done, shouldn't looks to shabby for a cheap build. Kinda find it useless to invest in a 150-200 dollar stand when this is a grow out tank cause i plan to get a 150-200 gallon in a few months^^

it sounds alright, I would just say screw the blocks and just use all wood. It might look better in my opinion, but everyones different man. You do what you want, cause you already got a pretty good outline of this setup. I like it. Good luck and have a good one

My stand i built for my 90 only cost me about 40$ to build compared to 200$ at the store!! I agree you have a good plan and go with it. We built our just with regular wood and nails and has been holding up quite well!! YT does wonders for DIY jobs!!! How much are the cinder blocks? i agree with Cotoandpaxi on screwing the blocks in!!! make sure to use those long cement screws and after you have screwed them in use a cement glue of some sort to make them stay in place!!! Can't wait to see what your end result is!!! The level is going to be your best friend in this job! as long as its level you will be fine!!! Just remember sometimes cinder block crack when being moved so if this is a stand you want to use even after you have the bigger tank i might consider just building it out of wood!! IF you plan on moving it its just not a guarantee that one of the cinder blocks wont crack!!!
heres one made from wood! you do not have to add all the extras either just helps to get the main structure!!!

Yeah, go with wood, man. 40 to 50 dollars worth of wood will get you a nice, solid stand. If you want, I can give you the plans to the one I built. Real simple. Uses all 2 x 4s.
