Nina_W wrote: Eddie, if you use quickrete, you need to soak it - quickrete makes your pH skyrocket at first.

Also, why not embed strong magnets in the back of each piece of background, and then use another magnet on the outside of your tank to hold the background in place?

I i dont have to use quickete... I'll use whatever to be honest I wonder what is best then....

And Magnets thats a great idea I wonder which once I have to get to make sure they to not have anything in them that will rust !

research time

Yes i used quick cement patch. But yes it will need to soak for about a week I soaked mine in a tube for a week the when the ph stabilized I Installed in the tank. And unless you have a VERY LARGE MAGNET I doubt it would hold there is an unbelievable amount of force from the styrofoam trying to float up so what ever method u use to attach the background make sure it can hold about 100 pounds of force. More update pics to come

Yes definitely hollow it out just be sure not to remove too much because u run the the chance of a large fish like an oscar breaking it. Every once in a while my oscar decides he is God and attempts too move the background by ramming it as hard as he can so just be sure it fan take a hit or two ;)

Yes I have the cement about 8 mm thick on mine and it has held up no cracks or holes the big thing is the attachment to the glass the last thing you want is the background launching up and out of the tank at 20 MPH! (This happened in a friends tank, the silicone didn't have enough of a grab on the styrofoam)

hey everyone sorry for the long delay I have had allot happen the last 8 months but here are some videos of the wall 8 months later I made a few modifications but basically the same. I removed the lower half of the backgrounds so I could stack rock and other decorations in. really easy just broke the foam and cement and then used a razor to remove the silicone. then I just re-coated in cement where needed.
