Matt created the topic: Tank refinishing from start to "Finish"

So I'm sure you all know, my large tank was a super hot deal off craigslist. As with any super awesome deal, they're generally fixer uppers. I thought I'd throw together a little photo montage of the transformation my tank made from the day I got it, until now, enojy :D

Just picked up the tank, and learned how heavy 3/4" acrylic really is.

A couple of days later, between working on sanding off the rattle can paint job and buffing out scratches it's finally coming along.

A couple months later, after rebuilding the doors, and more sanding, the tank is ready to paint.

Stripped down to begin painting

My wife the helper, and the one who lets me indulge this crazy habit

Painted, added more lights, and getting ready to go back together.

Fin

Hope you enjoyed it, I know I did, and it's nice to see the whole transformation from blah to something to be proud of.

You can't really see it in the photos, but the paint is that valspar with the granite in it, and it's got some gold mixed in, so it looks like 2 giant pieces of rock, really a different finish from anything I've seen.

And thanks Nicki :D

Amazing!

i like the finished color. and how cool is it that it fit perfectly in that spot. did you know it would fit there when you bought it?

i was wondering the same thing too, its too perfect to be a fluke!

Awesome Matt! To tell you the truth when I saw pics of your stand a week or so ago it inspired me to try out some sort of textured paint on a stand. I ended up getting a stone texture spray paint and it turned out great! Nice work bud!

@Cebo & Roxy

You know, I got the tank and the guy gave me the tank dimensions, not the stand dimensions. So I knew the tank would fit, but the stand is a good 1.5" longer on either side, so it was kind of a fluke lol
