K1 media was designed for use in fluidized bed filters, unless you have one I recommend just tossing them in your HOB/canister/sump and they might help some but if you want superior filtration ceramic rings are the way to go IMHO

I guess I'm confused what your asking, I would just toss them in the fx5's but if your wanting to do something.g different your gonna need to post a pic or diagram.

The k1 is just lite weight Bio media so it can be tossed around the fludized bed filter, ceramic rings are too heavy to work correctly so they had to engineer something new that will provide good growth of bacteria and be lite enough to be tossed around and take advantage of the constant movement and water flow that makes a fludized bed work

For the FX5, you're better off just sticking with static biomedia, that is what it is engineered for. Get or make a fluidized bed filter per Ken's suggestions.

How are you going to guarantee the K1 will be constantly moving in the FX 5?

 your not being very clear with what your asking, are you just generally asking what to do with this stuff?? If so I recommend building a fluidized bed filter since that's what K1 is designed for here's a link to plans

For K1 Media alot of people

take a 2 litre plastic bottle,
fill it with K1 Half way,
put the lid on and drill a hile
feed some air line in
put two holes in the bottle for suckers so it sticks to the tank
submerge it amd turn the air on,

The media will float and turn about in the bottle

Haku, I knew your were good.
