drock1234 created the topic: 55 gallon update

Work in progress still but got everything hooked up temp is at 77.5 but amonia has already started to climb. I used prime to neutralize it and I got my marine land bio wheel 300 from previous tank and now have a fluval 406. I also have some substrate in a media bag in the tank I'm trying to instant cycle my tank what should I do to finish this cycle

Hey, Drock, is your O allready in there?
I know he's small, and i can't find him in the picture.
But i presume you did!
The instant cycle means nothing more then to transfer a fully cycled filter , with enough "cycled" bacteria in it to handle the bioload , from one tank to the second.
The idea is, that if there is enough bacteria in a filter to cope with your fish' excretion in one tank, it should also be able to do that in another tank.
But since your filters both are new, it's not really possible to get an instant cycle.
I cannot find out if your first filter was fully cycled yet, but i must presume it wasn't, for you have a rise in ammonia-readings...

But like Firestorm pointed out in your tranfer-thread, you put your O into the new tank, cuz more water will be better then keeping him in the tiny tank for the toxins your fish excretes have more water to dissolve in, in the 55Gl.

Anywayz, just attach both filters to the new tank, and leave them running at the same time and keep testing!
Follow Rocksors advice on when to test.
Did you test for nitrites allready?
If nitrites are starting to form, it means the bacteria are starting to buildt up, by converting the ammonia.
The nitrites will rise besides the ammonia, then both will have to drop to 0, and once after that, the nitrates will start to rise.
When you have Nitrates present, and a reading of 0 on the other 2 tests, we speak of a cycled tank.

Are you doing daily waterchanges , with addition of the Prime?
That's the only thing you can do at the moment, besides the testing.
You just have to sit it out and wait for the beneficial bacteria to convert and grow.
And if I got it wrong about the first filter being not completely or uncycled, you only have to wait for the BB-colony to seed the new filter.

Not really instant, but you'll get there!
Btw nice tank! :)
Please post some clearer pics so we can get an even better idea on what 's in there.

Oh, I moved this thread to the correct section of the forum.

How long was the biowheel running on the other tank?
And how did you cycle it?

Nice, more pics! ;)

Well I had one filter at the beginning and it Clint handle the bioload so I bought the bio wheel and did everyday water changes for six weeks and finally got to zero amonia and zero nitrites for about two months now that's why I'm tryin to do this the best way so I don't have to do a million water changes

Aha, so the filter was cycled!
Goooood to hear that.
Then don't worry too much, keep your eyes on the testresults and give it some time.
But technically speaking you shouldt be safe.
If the filter couldt handle the bioload before, it shouldt do so now as well.
All that has changed is that there's more water to dissolve the toxins in.

You moved your O at the same time as the filter?
Your filter will need his poo to feed the bacteria and keep them alive.
As your O starts to grow, he'll eat more, poo more and the BB colony will grow to match the need.

Oh, algae is usually caused by either too many hours of light or overfeeding.
But algae growth is normal and should be in a healthy tank.
You just don't want an explosion of them.

Windows will need scrubbing, with a mag-floaty preferably.
Ornaments, fake plants and driftwood can be taken out once in a while and scrubbed with a brush and rinced off with old tankwater.

Yep it was cycled and since prime neutralizes amonia and nitrite should I change the water when 48 hours is up or should I just leave it and let it do its thing yesterday I had signs of amonia and now the amonia has the faintest of green I believe the amonia should be at zero by today
