Brandon created the topic: My guy Kraken!

These are pics of my guy Kraken. He was the fish at the back of the tank at Petsmart no one wanted. He had a gimpy fin, cuts, he has cataracts in one eye...he was in horrible shape. My Mom was buying me a present for making deen's list in college. So she was gonna buy me another Oscar to go with my old one Titan (He passed away a few months ago)...But Kraken was about dead looking. My Mom got mad because she had to pay 15 dollars for him and they wouldn't discount him. But we took him anyway no matte rhow much she tried to get me to pick a "better" one. Anyway I have taken really good care of him and he has turned out to be an amazing fish! Love this guy! He was beat up when we got him I thought he would never look to be a pretty fish. But he definitely has proved me wrong!

Here are some pics of Kraken!

This is one of my favorite pics! He shows off alot of color!

This is the pic of his bad eye. You can se the cataracts that never left, but because he is in my tank and not in the wild he is doing great!

This is a pic of when I first got him to now! They grow up fast! (I have had him for about 4-5 months now maybe...not sure but around that.)

Always good to hear someone picking the runt, One not as healthy, smaller etc. That goes for any animal.

Kraken looks like he will make you a fine fish. Good going on Brandon.

He is pretty, and getting big..

But I noted the sensory pits too... I would keep a close eye on that... :)

Thanks for looking at my fish! Yeah as he got older I noticed that too. My other Oscar (which has now passed away) didn't have sensory pits that were that prominent. The flash brought out kraken's sensory pits alot. They are very prominent though. I watch them really close though. Cause when I first saw how prominent they were I thought he had HITH. But I dont have any receded holes, or tissues damage. He also eats great and the holes are equal size all the way around on both sides and about the same pattern. I also watch hi lateral line tot. Just to make sure. HITH is my biggest fear really. :(

That is great to know that you are watching it! :)

Sometimes no matter what we do, they get HITH, but I wouldn't stress over it!

He is a great looking boy!!! :woohoo:

Thanks for all the supporting comments! I just pray he doesn't! But with his good health and me keeping the tank as best as I can he should be fine. Plus he gets a good varied diet of different staples. Cause around here our LFS doesn't really sell in frozen food for fish and I do not feed feeders. So I'm limited. But he should be fine! Thanks again you guys! I'm really happy I found this sight.

I also thought about this morning that maybe his sensory pits are alot stronger and larger due to him being blind in one eye since a baby. His body adapted and it's like in humans and mammals...one sense gets weak the others get stronger. Just a crazy spur of the moment thought...but hey makes him sound a little cooler though I doubt that is the case.

Hahaha! Thanks! Yeah he has definitely made a full recovery! Thanks for the compliment! :woohoo: He is definitely a water puppy. It's like having seaworld in my bedroom! :side: OH!!!!! Update everyone! In 4 days I will have officially had Kraken for 4 months!!!! And he is already 6-6.5 inches long...though he isnt very thick yet from top to bottom...I guess he will thicken up as he gets older! I think he is gonna be a big one!
