I know this is extremly off subject Brooksie , but I wanted to make sure you are aware of this , since you mentioned getting a steroid injection for your back...

cuz the oscar doesnt have those sharp fins you mentioned.

cool shots either way,. well over 13" there . :cheer:

Yep... both on the floor. Mike went to pick up Red after the pics, had him in his hands and he flapped.. I guess he wasn't prepared or something. He's also really strong for a fish - he wasn't prepared for the strength he had in his fins. On the floor he went! :( And yes he's a big guy... 13" !!

sorry he had to undergo such a stressful measuring
no wonder you have a hard time keeping him stationary..
your net is too small for him LOL!

The net is actually really big but you can't tell in the pic. It has a huge net even though the wire part doesn't look like it's big. He fits totally in the net - nothing sticking out at all. But he is a meaty guy for sure! :)

gorgoroth wrote: magnificent beast, i'm really not looking forward to moving to another house, my O's have been in that tank undisturbed for over years now and they hate the net (they allready shredded one when i was trying to catch a severum) so i guess the only option i have is getting them directly into plastic bags or buckets...

Thanks.. a beast is a good description! We used the 5 gallon bucket to move him between tanks. He still got everything soaking wet but he didn't end up on the floor then! This time we were putting him on a flat surface. Not as easy.

You're here now so that's what matters! I like knowing how big he REALLY is because I was off on my measuring. A ruler held up to glass while he swims by doesn't give you an accurate reading!

Brooksie wrote: So today we did something that I will never do again! EVER !!! Let's just say it didn't go well, at all and luckily nothing but my pride was hurt! :(

We took Red (and Daggermouth the FH) out of his tank for the first time in the 3 years that we have had him so that I could get an actual measurement on him. When we went to put him back into the tank, the move didn't go very well at all! He ended up on the floor.. flopping around through the dinning room into the kitchen before we could get him. :( Luckily as I said he wasn't seriously injured - lost a few scales. He's pissed off at us right now. My hubby ended up with actual cuts on his arms from his fins.

But he will recover and by tomorrow he will forget all about what happen. On the other hand, we will remember and won't do that again! It's too scary for me!! I'm sure we could have done it better - I thought we had it planned perfectly!

Anyway... here's my big boy! 13" long at 3 years old... my beautiful Red!

Brooksie

Massive and nice colour too.
