Noddy created the topic: Trouble using MP4toAVI converted files in WMM.

I've only been on the forum for a short while this last week.
Reason was, i was trying to cut and edit a new vid.

I want to use the *.MP4 format vids i shot with my N8 Nokia.
I usually convert the files into *.AVI, so i can load the vids into Windows Movie maker.

Now after converting the files play just fine in Windows Media Player. but when imported into WMM, the files become "only audio" as source file.
I use Any Video Convertor or Prazera for converting from m4 to avi, and with my old cam this used to work fine.

Anyone of the "Vidsquad" have any ideas howcome this doesn't work for myy 12.1mp HD vids, when it used to work for my 1.3mp dv camera.
Do i need to use another codec when converting?
Or set a different vid mode on my cell phone?

any ideas would be very helfull, for this is driving me nuts.:pinch: :pinch:

its more than likely a codec issue. What version windows and is it 32 or 64 bit? Avi is just a wrapper for the codec. And since there are well over 800 types of avi codecs out there it makes for a headache. i would download xvid or the divx codecs to start with those are the most popular nowdays.

I worked with a software guy for years. He coded video pipeline inspection software and he always prefered xvid. let me know how it goes.

Also try installing ffdshow if still having probs. Or try a conversion to wmv instead of AVI.

It looks like JD has some good info for you there.

But I am pretty sure Windows 7 can use those types of video files...

i think Xvid or Vidx are two of the main codecs i tried.
Might have to try a wmv converssion...
I'll let you know if it works out.

Odd thing is the media player recognizes the new footage right away. :pinch:

wierd.

I think you just need to update your windows live movie maker.

Go to this link:
explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker?os=other
and download the latest version. .... I believe this will solve your issue. :)
