OFL created the topic: Got myself an iMac

I have an iMac sitting right next to me at the moment, my cousin is selling it and I am seriously thinking about buying it off him.

It's got a 3.2 GHz Intel core i3

4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Operating system as the Mac OS X version 10.6.8

I've been messing around with it this afternoon, very different to the Windows 7 machine, but we're getting there slowly. I must admit, I really really like it.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

for most people imacs will look great and act great, but in a pc technician pov they are hell to work on, i can't help but find the appearance so bloated and over it.
i prefer a nice linux or BSD desktop and a windows machine just for gaming.
Maybe i'm biassed here as i know what mac is based on and how much they basically raped that OS to turn it into macOS

I'm trying to weigh up whether or not I need a Mac computer. It's all very well having one because it looks nice, but if it doesn't do any more than what my PC does then is it worth getting?

if you can get it at bargain price, go ahead, if you have to pay retail then don't. there is almost no added value compared to windows or linux. it's very graphical and that's about it.
nowadays you can assemble your own pc and run macos on it without all the expensive hardware and that damn apple logo on it :)

My brother switched from a Macbook to a Windows 7 laptop. He became frustated that the software he was using continually was behind the upgrade curve whenever Apple came out with a new OS. Basically, he could not upgrade to the latest Mac OS until the software he was using had a patch for it. He also got tired of the software selection to be too limited for what he wanted to do.

On the good side, he was able to sell his 3 year old Macbook for $700. If it were a Windows machine, he would be lucky to get a couple hundred.

--> take BSD, add alot of bells and whistles, make it unstable et voila, you've got macOS :D
it's very wanted in the design world, also for video and sound editing/creating. but then again, photoshop and traktor also work on windows... and i have yet to come across a better set of tools then are available for any linux distro :)

Eddie, go digging into the deeper settings of mac, you'll find how confusing and unstable it gets really fast :p
and if you're really up to a challenge, try running stuff from command line, if you're lucky it won't crash down on you :p
