OFL created the topic: PC Versus Mac

Which would you go for, PC or Mac? These two laptops are near enough the same money, give or take a few quid. However, the PC has a better specification. But does that carry more weight than the Mac itself?

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

hi Penn, I'd never pay that sort of money for a laptop, no need to really as you can get a similar spec machine for 1/2 that price..

i've seen so many so called "quality" laptops fail just out of warranty that I always advice to go for a relatively cheap machine... then if needed boost the RAM from ebay for small money...

I'd never touch a mac, again personal choice...

mac was the shit back when PC's were rocking 133mhz fsb's and mac had 400mhz fsb, yeah it was faster... that was then... this is now.... they are but a glorified boat anchor worthy of a secretary using text documents or an accountant with a spreadsheed application, and both of those things can easily be done on a pc now. if you want to game on one your shit out of luck.

in my early stage of using computer, i had a mac..but i can not use it with
other software except the one that goes with it...however, i still run off
with a lot of problems and i was still hit by that brontok virus that attack
the main system.

when i change the unit, i've got ordinary PC/laptop (5 units) wherein my kids
had a free hand to get whatever are the best available criteria in pc stores...
for the past 5 years or so..we haven't had any problem.

i won't go back to that very expensive Mac again....

Mac's are great for graphic designing, however I believe PC are far more practical and useful for the average user. Just my opinion. ;)

i use a laptop as I don't have a PC now. may be I will replace it someday as I find the laptop far slower for the same money as a PC. I would go PC but thats cos I have used them more. apple are great and if its design your into apple pave the way. My brother use the apple and without the need for virus protection he says its faster that a higher spec PC. he has had a few problems with the outer casing cracking around the screen as it gets hot. He has 2 and both apples have cracked. all been replaced under warranty but what when thats run out.

I'm a PC/Windows user at work and a Mac user at home - I like them both. I've had my MacBook Pro 17" for over a year and I absolutely love it. I have to say I prefer it over my PC.

Like what was previously mentioned, Mac has is great for graphic arts.
I find it fantastic for digital photography as well.
Since the hardware and software come from the same place; everything works seamlessly.
It also syncs very easily with my iPhone and iPod.
At the time when I purchased mine, the key importance for me was screen resolution - at the time Mac was priced better than the PC for the same screen resolution and graphics card.
I have never had my Mac freeze up or have encountered any "blue screens" - can't say that for my PC.
If you have specific software programs you want to run; double check that the OS is compatible (it seems more software is written for Windows than for Mac). You can run Windows on Mac, but I haven't tried that or will ever bother.
The 17" screen on my MacBook eliminates the need for an external monitor (because how large and clear it is) - I like how transportable the laptop is - for example, I'm curled up on the couch, in front of the TV:) That is something to consider with pricing your system.

Since both Mac and PC are great; you really can't go wrong - I suppose the one piece of advice is to identify the top two priorities and weigh your options from there.
