ok I am due to buy some anti virus in Jan as I am changing my connection and will no longer have the free software I am currently running. I have used a few and found some don't find all threats and others slow the system a stupid amount. Whats the best guys? or should I say whats good at a reasonable price.

in my experience (I work in IT) Norton will use a large % of your system resources, and slow your machine down considerably (if you have a lot of RAM you may not notice)..

NO anti-virus is fool proof, as the nature of the beast is that a virus has to be in circulation unstoppable before a fix can be made available... a simple rule is NEVER click on anything you aint 100% sure about...

personally I use McAfee (8.7i with the anti-spyware module) but also Spybot search & destroy which is a freebie and is excellent, you imunize your system against 100k nasties... for free this is one of the best..

marcus I have sent u a PM

Kaspersky are fantastic, I've got a five PC user license which cost me just over £50 a year. They have got a really good forum where you can get any help you need quickly, you haven't got boxes popping up all the time like you have with Norton. My dad has got Norton on his laptop and we were trying to get him on the Internet the other day on this box from Norton would not go away, kept popping up saying something about the Internet connection not being there, sorry very bloody annoying.

I have got McAfee on my laptop, and I have used Norton before. There is no way I would ever go back to any of these, Kaspersky has served me well and for the last year and I will renew my subscription in a few months since I purchased the software from their main website.

I previously posted the free ones that I use, AVG, Malwarebytes, Avast and Superantispyware. AVG is the best free one that I have found. As for Norton and McAfee... "stay away from them" is what my computer tech of an ex tells me. If the computer tech uses or doesn't use something, I figure it is safe. Norton hogs the computer as previously stated. I'm sorry but with all the really good free stuff, I won't pay for it. I do run 4 programs but I have never had a virus make it though! The big thing, always check for updates and run the programs weekly. Plus I had to becareful which porn sites I went to!

I think you have to bear in mind that there are always going to be limitations when using free software. Since I've been using Kaspersky I haven't had a single problem. I would advise everyone to get on YouTube and search out reviews, some of them are really good

Plus, I don't use my computer for nearly the type of stuff you guys do.. OLF forum, mail and facebook with a few news sites inserted for good measure! It's probably best to do as Penn says.

AVG has just failed me time and time again.... now running Avast. and i agree with tony, i used to run norton and later mcafee but they both use waaaay too much of my dated systems resources for me to be happy with them... AVG is nice for spotting them but it doest help in the least bit for removal and the "virus vault" AVG has is a joke! so i switched over to avast.

never heard of Panda? sounds like a womans choice of name )))) I have used norton and found it good but terribly slow and as I run a laptop I can't afford to slow it anymore ))) I want something like "if I find you it will hurt" not Panda  I will take a look.
