I think you hit the nail on the head. These calculators are very gimmicky. It's all very well putting in how much water is in the tank and how many fish and then the calculator tells you how much water to change, does It actually ask you how much food you put in, how much food the fish eats? I think not. I'm sort of reluctant to put things like this on the website, it could actually cause more harm than good if people start using the calculators, rather than seeking advice and getting reliable information.

I think we may stick with tank size calculators, convertors etc

And getting folks to test their water to now what needs to be done!

The problem I have got if I go to a bog standard web design company is these calculators obviously use some kind of formula don't they? What you have is a PHP script which is like the background workings, you have to put in all the right digits to make these things work properly. Hey, if anyone would be willing to contact the web developer of a site that has these calculators and ask them where they got them from, or whether they would be willing to sell them then I would be very grateful, I have already contacted a couple myself.

Do you just need to php code? I think this could do the trick.

code.google.com/p/php-excel-reader/

I could have a go at trying to get it from excel. I'll try a simple vol calc in metric when I get home and we will see what happens.

It's not just about writing a piece of code, I think there needs to be formulas in there so that the calculator works out everything properly. It was as simple as writing PHP code then that would be simple, if you know what I mean?

I was thinking about the guy who created AqAdvisor.com?
I don't remember what username he had on OFL.
I know, that he has a link to OFL, as recommended sites on his site, under forums and learning sites . Like Necro suggested at the time.
Maybe contact him, Boss?
He improved his site, and did use the advice given by our members,IMO.

edit:yhbae was his name on OFL...

Where do you get the scripts from?

I have also been looking at a couple of the calculators on that particular website I'm afraid that the "water change calculator" is both too complicated and totally unnecessary. There is no way you need a calculator to tell you how to do a water change. You simply use your eyes to locate any dirt, remove all the dirt with a vac, carry out a water test which will give you an indication of how much water you need to change, you do not need a calculator to tell you this and know something that I will not be putting on the website.
