But as a Member and eventually Moderator my goal has been to help keep the main theme of Penn's site:
For me that's the bottomline, and this means that the Moderators , with the very nescesary support of the community, are working as a team, to make sure this site stays a friendly site and is in fact a site for all ages...
We are here to advice and help in any way we can, and we do this within the boundaries the Boss has set.
IMO we do have very clear guidelines in what is tolerated and what isn't.
Applying those rules to any and all posts, has kept things "Friendly" indeed and has made this site into what it is. I allways tried to keep in mind, that there may be children watching our threads too.
And every now and then some people need to be reminded of that fact...
This applies to rude and disrespectfull behaviour and f.e. to the use of foul language and cursing. And when these things happen, the members will point this out to the poster, and when needed, the Mods will "adjust" or even erase the post, and will sometimes give a warning. But mostly the posters, esp. the long-time-OFL-ers will censor their own language when they are ranting.
The guidelines state nowhere that ranting about a subject that touches you isn't allowed.

Nor do the guidelines forbid us, to engage in a "firm" discussion, but you can discuss a subject the HARD way, yet stay polite...
Talk first and reason with them, you can allways get a stick to beat them with later!

On the other hand we have several sections that deal with any subject you can think of, and some of the threads in there can be a bit disturbing to small children, or triggering to others...
Keeping that in mind, an age limit is a good idea.
Besides all of this, the "Inappropriate advertisments" that were mentioned are in fact so called "Target advertisements".
These are a type of advertising whereby advertisements are placed so as to reach consumers based on various traits such as demographics, psychographics, behavioral variables (such as product purchase history), and firmographic variables ... or other second-order activities which serve as a proxy for these consumer traits. Sites visited, content viewed, and length of visit are databased to predict an online behavioral pattern.
The OFL site cannot be blamed for those adds appearing on your screen. It's a result of the internet tracking whatever happens on your computer and any other devices , connected to the net...
I mostly get fishfood, filters, fishstore-adds and anything RC car related, but never any datingsite- adds...

And I dont think we have anything to worry about here on this site.
we are all sensible and those that are abusive are warned about it.
I like this site because we all use the correct manner of writing (excusing typos) We dont post explicite content and the most disturbing things on here have been youtube vids are poor fishkeeping which serves as a warning to new owners.
WE voice our opinions but dont threaten with it and are will to accept differences without too much argueing. Its peaceful, respectful and nice and a site I feel all should be welcome to visit.

Some of the advertisements can be VERY questionable at timesJoshm13 wrote: Ha! Well thanks... I guess I'm a little slow tonight. There isn't really anything bad on OFL that I wouldn't let my kid see. I don't see the problem
Example....I can see someones Mom or Dad being upset that their child was directed to this type of website...and guess what. It originated from OFL website.
That could be an issue. They were just on the internet, and found this "Dating website" here on this forum.

Thank you Penn.
This seems to be a pretty good resolution
