he definitely seems stressed.

is he being picked on? whats the readings of the water for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrites?

what else is in the tank? and what size is it?

the most common reason for stress would be poor water quality, but u wouldnt be able to tell without the proper liquid test kit.
bullying would be the other common reason, but that would be something that you can see.

Nitrate . 5
Ammonia . 0
PH . Is pretty neutral hasn't changed in 6 months since I started the tank

Tank size is 4x2x2

I have 4 peacocks , 2 jewels , 1 pleco , 6 small silver dollars and a green terror .

All around the same size and no bullying as such nothing out of the ordinary

I'm wondering if it's a dominance thing due to my oter jewel being slightly bigger And both male

nitrates are a bit high, youd want to try to keep that around .20

your also pretty over stocked. im assuming that all the fish are small, but in the long run that green terror could use that tank for himself..... and the pleco would be too large even if it was just him in it.

your going to have to do something with rehoming or working on a bigger tank, things are only going to get worse from here.

gasping for air could mean a lack of oxygen, but any type of filter would create enough surface agitation to bring oxygen into the tank, so i doubt it is that.

its great that you have a test kit, so at least you know where you stand. do a big water change as soon as you can.

The green terror will be joining my oscars when he is big enough as will the silver dollars . They are in an 8x3x2 tank

The pleco is only about 4" atm and the fish are all quite small 2-2.5"

Perfect. But its probably going to be a while green terrors grow super slow compared to Oscars.

That 4 inch pleco is still a poop machine.

Note on GT growth.. mine is around 4ins and 13 months old. Oscar same age is over 10ins. My GT is in a 7ft tank with a 13in Oscar, 9in JD, a big Severum and a pair of similar sized Convicts. If GT isnt small enough to be eaten, I would be confident he would be ok with your Oscars in an 8ft tank. Give him some good hides and he should be ok.

Just a note on your stock. Peacocks are from lake Malawi and require very different water hardness and pH than the other fish you're keeling together.

Jewels can be pretty vicious towards nke another and as stated, poor water contributes to high stress levels.
