toni-a created the topic: six versus seven stripes frontosa

A friend of mine was seeking a frontosa found some for him he sais those were six stripes he needs seven stripes frontosa.
Seven stripes frontosa are three times more expensive, are they really different fish or it is just the number of stripes ??

Seven stripers are Kigoma frontosa...the only true frontosa. all the six stripers are actually Gibberosa and there are many variants. In the US top quality tank raised fry for kigomas should sell for between 10 and 20 bucks. Some of the Zaire and Congo Gibbs can be 50 or more dollars apiece. For wild caught fish prices can be very much higher. my trio of Wild caught Kigomas were about 200 bucks at 6 inch size. Mpibwe Gibbs are still quite popular in the states and go for about 12.00 apiece. a little research can save a bundle as some sellers will ask premium dollars for sub-par fish.

this is a Kigoma frontosa

this is a Bismark Gibberosa with six stripes.

It can take a lot of experience to tell some of the gibbs apart so buyer beware.

if you need help with an ID send pics and I can help.
