in the wild, mouth brooder normally die after the spawning...
but in the captive, mother normally survive through the interference
of the keeper.... before, i normally lost the mother tilapia every
spawning but lately, i was able to save the mother by removing her
when the fries are already free swimming...

We use a fairly simple method with the Frontosa(kigoma) ...
Work out what female is holding..
Fairly easy to tell as she wont feed and looks like she has a mouth full..
Net her and move her to her own 55 gallon..
Wait until she spits the fry and does not take them back in..
Re-net the female and add her back to the 7 foot tank...
leaving us with 30-40 F1 kigoma fry...

We have batches of fry that are a year old now and over 5 inches...clearly distinguishable between male and females.

Oh and i also own a 8-9 inch emperor cichlid :D :D
and a Peacock bass (ocellaris) :D :D

Both fish that can grow above 3ft in length  :silly:

180 gallon... to be honest im looking to sell the emperor as soon as it reaches 12-13 inches..

Would like to see it go to some sort of public attraction or sealife center with tropical exhibits.
Failing that somebody with a 300gal+

Good idea since they recommend over 1000 gallons.....that would be a nice tank but water changes would be interesting.
