Noticed two of my tinfoil barbs doing something I've never seen them do before. At first I thought they were stuck together somehow. Then they separated and began doing this. I've read it's rare for tinfoil barbs to breed in an aquarium. Could this possibly be a sign of future breeding?

edit: this went on for about 10 minutes

Your guess is as good as mine, or anybody else's I would think. I had some of these fish back in 2004, but once I realised they were so messy I move them on. And you are right, I don't think there are many people who have successfully bred tinfoil barbs in captivity, hence there not being any useful information on how to do it.

Oh I have no interest in breeding them. I just thought it was interesting. And I agree on the mess...they eat everything

This is the reason I decided to get rid of mine. Tinfoil barbs are renowned for being extremely greedy, they will literally be everything before anyone else gets the chance.

I do not know if it works but have seen it work with rays at Nat Geo. If you want to try breed it, try spraying water on the surface of the tank. The idea is to simulate rain to stimulate the fish to breed.
