RIFF-RAFF created the topic: Stomach bloated/ square

Hi all,

Not sure if this is really a major problem or not.
The second oscar seems to have some kind of lump around its belly.
I have taken some pics but it doesn't show them to well but will post a couple anyway.
One side of the fish don't look to far from normal but the other and bottom look almost square and nothing like the other healthy oscar.
Hes not inactive but he is still sort of off food. He ate a single baby mollie yesterday but can't get him to eat anything different.
Still on the bacterial treatment but now in his own 60 gallon tank.
.
Water tests came up ok as gravel and filter media both came from other tank.
I have given him an epsom salt dip today just in case he is just bloated but not sure.
This fish seems to have come with loads of problems but don't want to have to give up on him.

Have managed to get some background on this fish now though. It seems like his diet for the last 18 months has consisted of only feeders, probably why hes so small.

Hes been like this for the last week now. I thaught he was just full to begin with but then the rest of him started to get really thin. Once i got him eating a feeder or two and the rest of him started to fill out but that one bit was still bigger and square at the bottom.

I've only seen one very small bit of poop from him in the tank since last Thursday when he was seperated from the other oscar.

It sounds like he may be constipated...

Try feeding him peas... Canned or frozen (thawed) is fine... You may have to try it a few times to get him to eat them...

I would also not feed feeders for a while.. (personally I wouldn't feed them at all)

How big is he?

I'm trying all foods with him regulary but he just won't touch them feeders is all he will eat. End of last week you could see all the bones in his back around the lump. Thats one of the reasons i tried them in a last ditch attempt to get him eating in the first place. I am worried about how he managed to lose so much weight so fast though as he shouldn't have lost that much weight in a few days. If he won't eat anything until hes healthy enough to start starving for long periods then he can keep the feeders for now even though he has crickets i keep trying to. They are eating the peas so touch wood he'll take one of them in the morning.

To begin with i would have said 7inches but having him in the net today i measured him at 9 and 3/4". Which seems small for an oscar at around 18 months. Lavas only 2 years and she was 13" at 18 months and still growing no idea of her size now.

Ok, well I would continue to offer the peas, and try feeding other things sparingly...

All we can do is kind of wait and see...

I don't like the hoping part.

I've only had about 12/13 days and have already fallen for him.
I'm just at a loss of what to do next now. I've tried everything i know and alot of things that most people probably wouldn't.

The river shrimp should be here tomorrow hopefully he'll take them.

Oh thats no good, sorry to hear :(
Its sad when you have to make decisions like that but its in your pets best interest.
Did they give you any idea what might have caused it?
