akamel created the topic: HITH,Metronidazole, and possibly cottonmouth

A few months ago I noticed that one of my oscars had HITH. I began a strict regimen of waterchanges of 50% the first day and 25%daily ever since. Water parameters are fine: ammonia-0,nitrite-0,nitrate-10,PH78,temp 76. I do gravel vacs 3x weekly, added an airbubbler and raised the temp to 84.He is still eating very well as usual, begging for food, no breathing difficulties, etc. The HITH just seemed to get worse so I began giving Metronidazole per directins. Since then I have noticed that both of my O's look like they have cottonmouth, the one with HITH is getting a new white spot and the other O's scales looked "flipped up"(best way I know to describe it).Not all of the scales but about 4. They are approximately 3 inches long and reside with a 4 inch Pike and a Pleco. All seem to get along fine, no aggression, etc. What more can I do, what am I doing wrong? Also,as a nurse and a woman, I know that taking antibiotics can can yeast infections, so I am wondering if the "cottonmouth" is yeast. Please advise me on what to do,any suggestions are welcome.

I really wish I could but my camera was dropped and doesn't work. However, as soon as I can find one to borrow, I will post pics.
