[attachment:1]C:\fakepath\100_2961.JPG[/attachment]
I noticed today that my Albino Oscar is keeping his mouth wide open and seems to be breathing quite heavily. He seems to be "pouting". He is staying down around the bottom of the tank and hasnt shown an interest in food today. I took a water sample to my local pet store and my levels are all in the normal range. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what may be going on with my oscar?

maybe you could introduce a bubbler to the tank? if it is an O2 defficiency. or it could be like my oscar a few days ago, acted like that a bit but less mouth wide open. had a massive poop and was fine :)

Can we get exact water readings???

I too would add a bubbler, And do a 50% water change immediately... Water changes NEVER hurt...

I don't remember the exact readings. I did a fifth water change yesterday and I have a bubbler. I have tried uploading pics of him on here. His mouth isn't wide open, he just never closes it. He doesn't have a pot belly and doesn't seem bloated, but maybe he does just need to poo! Hopefully it passes soon, I miss my active Tony!

Most of the time water composition is the key to health issues. Get a liquid test kit and post your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH readings as well as temp, filter capacity, tank size, tank mates and anything unusual that has happened recently.

what do you mean by fifth water change?

I'm assuming 1/5th meaning 20%

I think your O is fine, Oscars yawn, it's quite normal, but if it really scares you, keep your water clean/make sure the filter doesn't have any weird junk in it, and I think you'll be fine.. Yawning is often a sign of nitrates being high but Oscars yawn in general even when they aren't being affected by nitrates, so I wouldn't get too scared.. Also check your temperature, I'd keep it around 78.

We aren't joking when we say water changes and Prime are the best solution to a problem.

Saddly I woke up to one less oscar :( My other two oscars are doing fine. They don't seem stressed at all. My tiger oscar, Larry, has always picked on my albino, Tony. I'm wondering if he bullied him to death. I feel terrible. Tony had a great personality and was beautiful! I was able to post pictures of my boys today. Feel free to stop by and check them out!
