I've notice the lower left and right sides of my 4 inch Oscar looks like he's missing scales from abrasion. I think it's happening at night. Can you take a look at the pictures and just confirm it's trauma and not some kind of infection going on. Maybe I'll get him a night light. ph 6.8, am 0, nitrite, 0, nitrates 10. thanks

is it on one side only???? if it does, i am sure that is just an
injury... any sharp edges on decor??? or filter suction point???

both sides, but mainly on right side, just one spot of left. I have a Aquaclear 500 and the filter has a point on it, and some decor has rough edges. Are oscars just that rough or Blind at night?

when they are sleeping or resting, they are being carried by water current, then once they hit sharp object or heater, they dart away aimlessly, thus injuring themselves...

how does he/she breath??? gasping for air??? if no, it may be just scratch itself..

Seems to be breathing fine, eating like a horse. It's funny on the left side of my tank against the back wall I have a UV sterilizer. He sleeps on top it near the top of the tank is a little 5x5 area but he gets in there. But there is nothing sharp on the UV pump. Anyway, maybe he's just hitting the "fake" driftwood decor.

Occasionally darts, but it's usually when my son is scaring him. Yes tank completely dark at night. Do you think if I put one of those Actinic Blue LED 10" light strip on at night it would help?
