I have searched the forums for some answers about water/wood mites but didn't find anything or didn't look in the right place.

Just earlier today I have noticed that my driftwood in my 90 gallon tank has little white things crawling all over it and they look like mites. At first I thought they were just little bubbles but then they started crawling in all directions... I looked at the other pieces in my tank and they are on all three pieces of wood. this is not new driftwood I have had it as long as the fish are old and the majority of my fish are going on 4 years old. the newest addition to the tank was bought over a year ago(i bought a second pleco cause the first one is too small and wont grow). But the second is already triple his size... The white things crawling on the wood look like they have no affect to the fish. they seem to stay on the driftwood only... I have tried to get pictures but they are too small to see with the camera.

water params are all normal I just tested them. I do reg. scheduled water changes and just did one about 3 days ago. I've always had good water so I don't think that thats the problem.

I would like to keep the driftwood in my tank. I just have no clue as to how to get rid of the little buggers.. or as to how long they have been there either. Could they have been there this whole time.? Like I said it looks like they have no affect to the fish. the fish have nothing externally wrong with them and all have normal appetites so I'm pretty sure they are at no harm. I just don't want this to get out of control..

Do I try Aquarium salt?

Thanks in advance. :)

You could try taking it out and dousing it with boiling water. Should kill whatever is on there. Did you boil the wood before you put in the tank anyway? If not they could have been on there the whole time and just now been something you noticed.

I always try and buy mine presoaked, and I use grapevine driftwood, since it's got a lot of character and good hiding places and breaks for the fish.
