How big is your tank??
What filters are you running and
How long has your tank been set up???

Do you have someone else that can help with reading the test results??

I have a 125 gallon tank

im running a H.O.T. magnum HOB canister filter which i belive filters 250
i also have a bio wheel marineland which i think filters 200.

This tank has been setup for around a year or so. When i got the tank setup i used a chemical that right now i cant think of the name that is a three day dosage... it was suppose to help start a bacteria cycle.

I can try, for the most part i should stand correct in the readings. I used to run a extremly huge pool for a school district and had to test the exact same way. Ill have one of my buddies check it though just incase.

On the Pleco question, you have what is called a "Common" pleco, aka a Pterigoplichtis.
They do indeed change colour and may even show a pattern, to show their mood, or blend in with the surroundings, just like my Hypostomus.
Nothing to worry there, Tank! ;)
But this pleco will add a significant ammount to your bioload, for they max out at 2 feet, and will eat and poo like crazy!
How big is your Pleco now?

Good!! lol. i didnt think they could do that. Although black and white is not a good camo for my tank

Yeah, he almost makes more of a mess then the oscar does.. i havent measured either of my fish but i know hes over a foot.. possibly 14-15 inches? just a rough guess.

You will need to look into getting a bigger filter..
That is where your Ammonia issue is coming in. You are WAY under filtered...

The HOT is rated for a 55 gallon tank, And the Marineland is rated for a 50 gallon tank... Those combined are no where close to enough turn over...

You need at LEAST 5x tank turn over per hour with a big canister
Or
10x turn over with HOB's.
So 125x5= 625gph with canister
or 1250gph with HOB's...

And this is MINIMUM...

SO I do believe that adding filtration should fix your issue! :)

Aggreed, and getting a bigger filter will prepare you for the growth of your pleco as well. ;)

Oh wow, thats a big difference between HOB and canister

Other than a fluval what are some good canister brands? for a decent price?

Would that posses the fish to build up a thicker slime coat due to the toxins?

No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationYes a thicker slime coat is a fishes first defense when there is an issue in the water...

I will link you to a great canister available on Ebay.. I have 3 of these and love them...
However, I would run this in addition to, the HOT...

I have bought from this seller all 3 times and never had any issues! :)

The G6 series isn't a big enough filter I don't think... I honestly don't know much about them... If you are going to spend the money, go with an FX5!
