Hey, there.
While you answer Nicki's questions, which will surely provide us with an answer to what may be wrong, make sure your lids are closed off completely shut.
If there's a waterproblem, the next step your Oscar may take, is bail out off the water, by jumping outof the tank.

Sorry guys i'm also working today. 55 Gal tank, 2 oscars,1 Pacu and 2 algea eaters. 20% Waterchange every 7 days. for the last week i've been an algea outbreak my water is very green, very cloudy I took my water to the pet shop which they tested: PH 6.6, Ammonia0, Nitrate20, and Nitrite0 but they said my phospate was off the chart.
They told me to use Algeafix which i've used but it's not worked thus far 4 days into using it.

What are the sizes of each fish? When did your Oscar start doing this? Any of the other fish exhibiting any abnormal behavior?

there about 6inches each. Oscars been doing it periodically for about a month now, i've seen the Pacu do it a couple of times sometimes when I walk in the room like he got scared or something.

What do you mean by off the chart for your phos reading? What was the highest reading for the test? The phosphate is the cause of the algae problem and usually high levels of phos is due to over feeding. How much and often do you feed? Are you performing regular gravel vacs?

You are waaay over stocked for a 55gal and I find it impossible that you have a nitrate reading of 20ppm with those fish in the tank and only 20% waterchange once a week. I recommend getting a test kit (liquid dropper bottle type, not the strips) and test the water yourself and post the results here. API has an excellent Freshwater Master Test Kit for around $25. You need to know that a 55gal is only big enough for 1 Oscar with no tankmates as they are a very messy fish. You'll need to upgrade or rehome the other fish to keep them healthy...

Thanks Jason,

Sounds like good advice, I am looking into a bigger tank, this is the tank I originally had african ciclids in (they killed each other so I traded the lone survivor in). I just put the oscars in here, it's only been about 3 months since i've had them. I'm not sure of what the phos were they just told me it was "off the chart." Guy at the store now tells me I need a uv sterilizer for the algea problem since the algae fix isn't working $100 bucks. Still not sure why they're running into the walls so hard.

UV sterlizers are nice but unnecessary, what you need to do is cut your feeding down to once a day a start doing daily 30% water changes and leave the lights off this will fix your green water problem and will keep your fish safe untill you get a new tank which needs to be within a month. If you cant get a tank within a month you need to start looking for new homes for everything but one oscar
