We have about a 9" Red Oscar in a 125 gal. tank. We noticed this mornig the tank was full of a redish looking substance that we thought maybe the Oscar was regurjitating it's food. Did a 50% water change and after a while noticed it again. While watching him for a good bit noticed the red substance was poop.
I have a video posted on YouTube that shows him putting sand in his mouth and then shortly after he will poop.
No major changes in eating. We did buy some Silver Dollar fish last week and the next morning 2 of them were gone. It was probably shortly after this we noticed our Oscar digging more in the sand and being a bit more lathargic.
Water levels are pretty much 0 all the way around for Amonia, Nitrite and Nitrate.

He has done this at least 5-6 times just today.... Now he's laying at the bottom of the tank. Is this normal when a fish finally starts to use the bathroom after being constipated for a while?

Did he make this face.... :S

How big were the silver dollars? He's probably lethargic from eating the two silver dollars.

Those are too small for a 9 inch Oscar. You need ones that are about 3-4 inches so that they don't fit in his mouth.

Yeah, we figured that out the hard way...

Do you have any insight on my main issue?

Looks like he is expelling a LOT of waste in an odd fashion...

I have to say I have never seen an Oscar do that..

I would give him a day or 2 to come around and maybe toss in an extra water change...

But wait and watch for now would be my advice...

hi there

1. what i would normally do: daily water change up to 30%
2. add salt after each wc.
3. up the heater to 31 to 32c.
4. suspend all feeding activities.
5. remove all other fish or temporarily park the oscar in a hosp tank.
6. it usually takes a week or so.

Extraordinary video......"graphic" comes to mind....reminds me of what happened to my stepson's baby last week.

I had a grand old male Oscar die once from "bloat".....really awful!
I was relieved that he couldn't die twice
