scratches and Rami created the topic: Oscar acting dead when lights are on?

hello, I have 2 tiger oscars, and they were hiding from the light at first, but then they had a nice swim around the area and finally looking around the tank. but 5 hours later, they started hiding again, only 1, but the other just lays down on the gravel floor and turns white as if its acting dead.

has that ever happened to any of yours? I know that they like dim lighting and same time know about the day and night cycle, but thats just weird and I don't want to stress it out, nor let it die.

Is there a good way of rules to follow per day to avoid it doing that when the lights are on? I really don't want it stressed at all.

This isn't uncommon, just introduce them to lighting very slowly and they should get used to it

I turn on room lights and then aquarium light about 15 minutes later when they start to show they are waking up. They're slow to wake in morning. They like to sleep in that last 10-15 minutes. Can't blame them.

How long has the tank been up? Did you cycle the tank?

Yes, I also have Bala's, if the water wasn't, the bala's would be the first to go before the Oscar. (Their softer then Oscars)

When I bought them, I noticed the White Oscars being more sick compared to the tigers, the other is active and healthy, but the one acting dead isn't eating, and is always just on the gravel floor.

I only saw it once swimming, but in a minute, went back to the floor.

I'm thinking of returning it and getting it a new friend, maybe a parrot or a tiger.

Have you tested your water parameters?

nothing is wrong with the water, tested it and it came out prefect. I been adding some of my 20 gallons aquariums water which has been setup a year and a half ago, I added 2 gallons a day and then added some starter fish and they were ok and healthy.

Who tested it? what were the numbers? "Perfect" does not help solve your problem.

ever heard of a fish store called "big als"? its been in service since 1975, here's their website you can check out
www.bigalscanada.com/
They didn't give me any numbers, but they said the levels were low and at zero.
