BJ created the topic: Is Dirty Harry a bully?

Hi, woke up this morning to my little tiger oscar doing weird spirals around the tank for about 1/2 hour. He then stopped laid on his side, didn't move for another 1/2 hour, got some movement going around him, no movement, so i fished him out and yep he's dead. So i immediately tested the water nitrite, nitrate and ammonia all 0's and ph 7. And then noticed before disposing the tiger he had all bite marks in his dorsal fin (that's the big one on the back isn't it?) and he is easily 1" smaller, but were the same size when i bought them. So is Dirty Harry (my red oscar) a bully or am i missing something?
Thanks BJ

Aww thats no good :(
Most fish, not just oscars are mean cruel bullies when they set their mind to it. If your O was covered in bite marks its most likely been killed by his tankmate.
Something else to consider is water quality, that can make fins look shredded, bitten or ripped. Before you get more fish you should get your tank cycled properly. A cycled tank will have a nitrate reading of some sort.
Do you test with strips or a liquid test kit?

Had a mate come around this morning to test it and that's what he said it was. And they were test stripes. Going out this arvo to get a master test kit. If it is water quality can you have 1 good fish and 1 bad fish?
Thanks BJ

If the water is not right i`m guessing they would both be feeling it but maybe it affected the weaker one more. Master Test Kit is the way to go, once you get the results post them and go from there.
Sometimes they just turn on each other for no reason its just a gamble when you have more then one!
Have you had them long and how big is the tank?
What sort of filter do you have and do you do regular water changes?

I've had them for 2 weeks and a 240l tank (not sure how many gallons)
I'm running a resun sp3800l internal and have done 2 water changes in 2 weeks roughly 30%.

just found out it is roughly 63-64 gallons so not really big enough for two anyway. Can i put another fish in there eg; clown loach or is just his tank now?

I wouldn`t add any more fish just yet, you need to get the filter cycled first or you`ll be throwing money down the drain. I`m pretty sure clown loaches like company and don`t do well in poor water.
This article explains why you need to cycle and how to do it if you want to have a read www.oscarfishlover.com/helpful-articles/cycling-an-aquarium
