cerberusgear created the topic: purple eyes?

hello

i've been taking care of Jecht about a year now; 3 weeks ago it start acting weird, staying in the bottom, changing of color dramatically over and over , and i noticed broken fins; so i put 2 drops of acriflavine per liter every 3 days.

Now it is all better , acting as usual , very hungry and very fast; but i´ve noticed that its eyes are turning purple. Should i worry??? its eyes were orange and apparently it isnt blind or has any kind of lose in its sight.

nice forum!

greetings from mexico

Have you looked at the photos in the thread on the Emergency portion of this forum? I would look there and see if it looks like Cloudy Eye. If it does, then that means poor water quality. We need some info from you, as well. :)

*How big is your tank and what kind of filtration do you have?
*How often do you do a water change, and what amount (30%, 40%, etc.)
*Are there any tank mates? What kind and how big?
*Oh and how big/old is your Oscar?

Welcome to the forum! We will do everything we can to help you get your Oscar better! ;)

We have had our Groucho (Tiger O) for over a year now...have watched him grow from 2 inches to pushing 11 inches! LOVE watching him swim around in his little 55 gal world. We also have a fancy goldfish and a black moor in a separate tank. We love our fishies!...[IMG]

hello again

well i looked to the fish desease pictures and it doesnt look like cloudy eye, but it looks like the eyes of the oscar in the picture "hith on a gray fish"; but my oscar doesnt have hith.

And about my tank well, it is about 80 liters , i know it is little but im looking for a bigger one; i use a mechanichal filtration system; i do a 20% water change everyday; no tank mates, only 2 destroyed amazon plants; and Jecht , my oscar, must be a year and a half old, and its about 8 inches long.

thanks for your help!

The tank is too small...1 year only 8 inches? Two of mine can go 9inch in 2 months time in a 125g so, either u can replace a at least 55g tank or rehome it.

I hope you can get him a bigger tank SOON. He really should be much bigger than that at that age. My O grew from 2 inches to pushing 6 inches or better in just four months. His tank is too small, so his water is probably having a huge effect on his health.

We don't mean to offend; we just want what's best for the health of your Oscar. ;) Also, about the filtration, I meant what size is it? What's the gph on it? You may not have enough filtration, which can also cause problems....esp for a tank that size.
