Emily created the topic: Is My Oscar Too Skinny?

Well! ... Lately, I have been paying more attention to my Oscar's feeding. I'm thinking he looks a little "skinnier" than most people's Oscars. How can I tell if my Oscar is skinny or just right? Thank-you!

If you feed him once a day, everyday, then he should be fine.

Based on your sig, he doesn't look skinny. Post some more pics of him.

Here is one from a few seconds ago. Sorry about the background; I am in the middle of changing the background to something more Valentine themed (which is why he seemingly has Disney princesses and hearts on his tank now).

doesnt look too skinny to me (from what i could tell fromm that pic)_

Oscars go through phases, one of them is when they are at stage where they grow long, but dont bulk up yet. keep in mind oscars only grow so long, and then its all girth that is added.

hope that helps. :S

hi there

1. good afternoon to you, ms emily.
2. from your attachment, your red does not skinny at all. it looks fine.
3. btw, how old is it?
4. one visual way is to look at its underbelly!
5. very skinny oscar does have some "sunken" underbelly.

That helps a LOT! But, it does raise another question for me, does this mean that he is having a growth spurt? He is about 13-14in now. Or, maybe the time of season or something that is making him look funky now.

Thanks! I believe him to be about two or three years old. And he goes from sunken belly to a fat belly depending on the day. He is fed about 3-4 times a day with small quantities (some pellets and a worm or two)(he eats Hikari Bio Gold + and freeze dried meal worms). His tank is about as clean as clean can get. Just here lately, he has been extra curious about EVERYTHING and his finning has just been WOW. His fins went from being plain black, to having a lot of red on them and being kind of "fuller" looking (if that makes any sense).

The first pic, I would have to say is a bit older, Lol! He used to be the porker, but not, not so much. Is he just going through the adolescence of the Oscar world?

I think this picture is from about three weeks ago.
