katzintheclouds created the topic: Still In Shock?

Hey guys.

I've had Hobbs, my wonderful Oscar, for two years now & he's been doing great. Tonight though I accidentally moved to fast when I was fixed a plant in his tank & scared him crazy. He immediately fled to the bottle corner of the tank & laid out like a board. He's resting on his side like he's dead, even though he's obviously not. I know these guys are flightly & he's given me similar treatment before but I gotta admit this threw me for a loop tonight.

Anyone else experience this? I know I'm probably over reacting but I'm not liking that he's just floating around like that on the bottom of the tank.

Thanks!

I know exactly what you have done and i`ve done it myself more than once!
The first time i thought i had scared them to death, they changed color and just lay there on their sides for what seemed like forever and i felt so cruel :(
Keep the lights off and you poor O will forgive you in time.

The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.

Thanks Noddy! I turned the lights off & sure enough, about five minutes later he was moving around! I feel bad. I usually clean the tank through siphoning while he's in there just because I thought it was less stressful then actually removing him from the tank. He usually gets scared but tonight I think I just really moved to fast! I felt so bad. He seems to be fine now though! Thanks again!

hi there

1. don't worry.
2. our oscars love to "play" dead and lie on its side.
3. especially when they are stressed.
4. they shall recover in no time.
5. just maintain good water parameters.
