Has anyone had it go to the inside of their mouth? I know they get these, but I thought it would be only exterior, not inside of its mouth? Would love an answer, it's been this way for over two weeks now.

It's quite normal to have a pimple on the exterior of the chain. I have seen them on the inside of the mouth, although not too big. I think in your case it would be interesting to see where this goes. I can't give you a definitive answer I'm afraid. I recently had an Oscar that develops a growth very similar to what your Oscar has on the inside of its mouth, however it was more to the side and father in the Oscars mouth. Sadly in my case this growth was obviously something nasty because it got to the extent that the Oscar could not eat. Just keep an eye on your fish, keep us posted with photos every few days so we can see if the lump is developing into anything more sinister. I might add that if it is some kind of growth, there's probably not much you can do about it. But let's not start worrying right now.

Not the response I was hoping for! :(
But with that, I suppose I will do a full update for this case. Maybe someone will notice something I may be doing wrong! The only thing about him is his growth rate is.... Just not what I had expected. I would claim him to be 8-8 1/2 inches, he is one year and three months old. But within the last month I have noticed him grow much quicker than ever before, so I'm thinking he might just be a late bloomer. Not sure. Anyhow. Here's a side view.

And a "full body," shot lol, he hates my phone.

Sorry, my intention was not to worry you. I shouldn't worry too much, I'm not too concerned by the lump in your Oscar's mouth. Like I said, I've seen exactly the same thing before on my own Oscars. They quite often have a small lump on the inside of your mouth, it's just that yours is slightly bigger than I've seen before. It may be a case that it doesn't get any bigger, Sometimes these lumps can get quite big and then they subside and gets smaller.

Your Oscar looks nice and healthy, really good-looking fins, no signs of illness. 8.5 inches is probably a little smaller than I would expect for an Oscar of just a but one year old, but it's not worryingly small, put it that way. As long as you keep your water entered condition and feed the fish on a healthy diet that you are doing all you can to keep it healthy and it should grow accordingly. But remember, Oscars don't always grow huge, you may find some that stop growing at a certain size. I had a red Oscar that didn't get much bigger than 9 inches, I had him for quite a few years.

Sounds to me as if you have been doing a really good job with your fish, just keep doing what you're doing.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

How often do you perform partial water changes, & how much each time?

What size tank, & any other inhabitants?

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

I usually do 25's daily. Because usually I'm the only one contributing, and doing a whole 75+ at the end of the week kicks my ass! But I flip it when the fiancé wants to help, lol.

And sadly, no other inhabitants, for I only have 55 gallon. He is the only baby I can keep at this time.

The growth is still at the same size, it looks like it is flaking off though, which is odd. It seriously looks like one of his pellets is embedded into his mouth lol. So weird looking!

That is odd looking, hopefully it just disappears. Am I correct in inferring that you are using buckets to do w/c? If so, desist that laborious nonsense immediately! Get a python, do 2 or 3 75% weekly and a good gravel vac to boot. I do a 75% on a 55 with 1 Oscar in about 15 mins, and no heaving water around!

Hey, I had to join just to reply. I did a google search and found this. I dont have a photo, but my oscar also had the lump inside AND outside of his mouth. That was around the time he hit 2 years old. I thought maybe he was sick due to water conditions since hes housed with a RTC. The inside bump went away completely after about 6 months. The outside bump however, has grown rather large, almost the size of 2 skittles stacked ontop of each other. Ive checked with vets in regards and shown them pictures, and all they have said is the best they can do is numb the fish and lance it off.

But it looks like its more common then not in mature oscars. So yes, i also had the bump INSIDE the mouth as well as outside. the inside lump should disappear over time, at least mine did

btw your oscar is gorgeous
