tacha created the topic: the things i saw when i was home

hey everybody

Yesterday I bought my first two Oscar's and i feel like a kid in a candystore :silly:
buth i have a few minor problems things that a saw when i was already back home.
one of the fish does not have the dark colors i (think) i saw in the shop. in the shop they look all healthy and black, only the lenght was a little bit different.
i think i saw wrong because the fishtank was much higher than my head and it is also dark in the store.
may it be that the one needs more time to adapt?
this morning a made a picture sow u can see wath i mean.
the albino oscar's who were also in the shop did not look healthy; they were in a different tank.
i fed them this morning with tetra cichlid sticks and they seemed to like it

hi there

1. bro, please allow your juvenile to adjust themselves to the new tank environment.
2. btw, nice tank setup.
3. once they have settled down, they will be just as nice or nicer than what you had seen in the lfs.
4. those cats and kittens, adorable, dude.

Oscars can (and do) change colour readily, depending on the substrate colour, their mood, stress etc.

When I swapped out my tank hood for glass lids the increased light level made my oscar (who's a tiger like yours) go really pale for a few days, like he was trying to match the sand substrate. Also, when mine was really small he used to go pale when he's hungry. Now he's over 6 inches he instead goes black when he's wanting food, shows up pale stripes really clearly when it's dark, turns pale when he gets startled, goes half dark/half light when he's playing in the filter outlet etc.

Don't worry about the colour, in other words! :) If they're both eating it's a great sign, but they'll still be stressed and settling in.

I agree

The light substrate might also be one reason it could be going light.

thank you all for the quick response :)

today it's already better, the color is a bit darker. they also hide less under the rocks and eat very well.
still it is searching for the right amount of food because i'm just to small fish, none cichlid. my husband had a few years ago a malawi tank with small fish; but it is still not an Oscar ;)
once they are adjusted they will feel very happy with their new caregiver.

thank you all for your help, hopefully i can show you soon very nice pictures
