Gendiaaa created the topic: help me in ich treatment

Hello guys and happy new year I got ich parasite in my Oscar tank and I start seen the white dots on it so I isolate the external filter and I made a solution of KMno4 and I removed the supstreat left only the drift wood changed 70% of water and I made the Kmno4 about 3ppm in the tank and raised the temperature to 30c '''''' the problem is the external filter with no flow and it will stay offline all the time of treatment many guys said that the kmno4 kills nitrifaying bacteria and there is one site tells something else www.nrcresearchpress.com/doi/abs/10.1139/f75-239 , so what shall do I do to safe the nitrfying bacteria

For ich, a treatment of salt and higher temperature works better than anything I've seen. Also, it won't harm your filter bacteria and will kill the parasite and the next generation everywhere in the tank. You don't need to remove anything.

First, be sure it's ich. I'll post a picture of my oscar when he had ich.
You'll need to make the proper conversions where necessary.
Use 1 tablespoon (15ml) of aquarium salt per 5 US gallons (20L) of water. Dissolve the salt in some water in a small cup first, then pour it into the water. Add the entire amount slowly so as not to shock your oscar. Adjust the temperature gradually to 85ºf (29.5ºc). I believe yours is already at 30ºc so you won't need to adjust it.
When performing water changes, replace the salt that was taken out. Continue the salt level and temperature for two weeks after the last of the ich has fallen off the oscar. Then decrease the amount of salt in the water gradually when you perform water changes and slowly return the temperature to normal. Be sure to gravel vac the bottom well during and after the two weeks.

I would drain as much as possible with a close to 100% water change, because it's likely going to kill all your nitrifying bacteria as long as it's there. I'm not sure at what concentration it will not be harmful to the bio-media, so I'd get as much out as possible. But keep in mind I don't have any experience with potassium permanganate.

I'm sorry to hear that. Tanks have leaked with a few members here, sometimes much of the water leaking out into the room. It sounds like you caught the leak before too much water got out ... that's good. I would urge you to get another tank, if possible. On at least two occasions, members here have resealed tanks only to have them fail again. I wouldn't want that to happen to you.

Keep me informed about the ich. In my case, my oscar started looking better after a couple days.

If you could add another heater, that would probably be best. Then gradually get the tank water up to 85ºf (29.5ºc). How much salt is in the water now?
