LeafsFan created the topic: Oscar shedding slime coat

I noticed today after doing a large water change that my Oscar was shedding his slime coat. So like always the first thing I do is look it up, and I read that it is very stressful for the fish and it is caused by the small bubbles from the tap water and that the water should be aged. I also read that it's normal for large cichlids to do that. Reading two different things I don't know what to go by so I figured I would go on here and get the reliable answer. Can anyone give me some advice on this please. The ageing the water thing does not sound very easy considering its a 100 gallon tank so to do a decent size water change that is a lot of water do deal with.

Stress will cause an oscar to shed its slime coat as well. I had an oscar do this in quarantine for 12 of the 14 days.

He's not a fan of water changes like he hides and stuff but soon as I'm finished he acts normal so I will just keep doing what I'm doing, he seems happy and fine other then that so we will see

UNC-CH had a similar problem a little while ago was being caused by his power head creating small bubbles. I sure he will read this and comment.

If that's close to the temp of the water already in the tank then I don't think it'd be an issue.

I'm going to also guess that it's stress from the w/cs.
