Sockfuzz created the topic: Cloudy eyes, sitting on the bottom of the tank.

I visited the pet store today to see what they had and to pick up some tester strips and saw they had a really nice looking oscar for sale that would go great in my tank. Unfortunately it's eyes were very cloudy and it was sitting on the bottom of the tank (still alive). I would kind of lay on it's side and then sit up here and there. Im feeling really bad for it and was wondering if anyone knew if it can be saved or if it is too far gone. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks

First stay away from the sick fish. Second stay away from test strips, they are so inaccurate that it is a waste of time using them. Get yourself the API freshwater master test kit. What size tank were you going to put the Oscar in? If it's a tank that already has an Oscar or other inhabitants it would need to be a big tank. Quarantine new fish as well or you could end up with a tank of sick fish from a seemingly healthy additional inhabitant.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

Well I thought if I could help a fish thats needlessly dying then why not. I did not realize the strips were garbage and I will look into that. It was going to go into a 55 gal on its own for now. I also have a 20 gal sick tank I was to treat it in

A 20g wont help much, but f you could set up a 55 w/ establshed flters and do many months of 2-3x weekly large water changes, you may be able to save the Oscar.

I may not be the Boss, but I'm ALWAYS right!
