Almost two weeks. I have someone who comes over and house sits. I measure food out in little day of the week pill containers with a reduced amount of food compared to what I normally feed when I can change water.

Okay I decided to up the Peroxide baths. This morning I increased the bath to one hour and all was well. According to the experiences I had been reading about it seems the length of time in the bath is what had the best success. So I am going to do the treatment every morning before work and then every two days do the force feeding of kanaplex. The angry bumps look to be gone with just small white fuzzy spots all over. Kind of like whatever it was burst and was done. The fish has been a real trooper through it all.

Still not sure what I am dealing with but Chunk is sitting in another Peroxide bath as I write. I have a feeling it was a parasite/infection combination. I think that is why I saw some improvement with antibiotics but then would flare back up again because the parasite was never killed. The Tetra parasite guard treatment is done today and I am going to continue with the baths every day so this should eliminate any parasite. The baths have been very effective in treating the outward skin bumps so I will continue with it until I leave for vacation on Saturday. I will force feed another kanaplex/food mix tonight and on Wednesday to complete internal medicine treatments and I am going to take another shot at it with triple sulfa before I go. Then Saturday morning the fish will get a coppersafe treatment that will be going on while I am away.

Long rant! lol

Update: Chunk still shows some or the white little pimples with just a few that look like they have a white head on them. The Peroxide baths seem to be the most effective treatment so far. As of now the fish is only in clean water with no meds. I decided not to force feed any meds since I really think this junk is somewhat antibiotic resistant. So Chunk is progressing well but not 100% done with it.

Your dedication to the treatment of Chunk warms my cold heart. This story rivals that of Lamm's silver dollars.

Well my clean tank with no meds did not last long. I decided to follow a friends advice and follow up with another parasite treatment with Clout this time. Just a 24hr dose and then clear it up with water changes. Still plan on a copper treatment while Im gone. This should pretty much knock out any and all parasites. Clout is pretty hardcore from what Ive been reading and the entire tank is in a deep blue. Still not sure what I have been dealing with but the Parasite guard and Peroxide baths has proven the most effective.

When you say you're not sure what it is, do you mean that you think it's something other than velvet? Or that you're just not sure if it's velvet or something else? I had come to think it was probably a very stubborn case of velvet.

I'm very happy to hear that the peroxide is working. I think you said that it was just a matter of finding the right medication for him. Coppersafe should get the job done if the clout and peroxide baths don't before then. It looks like you found the right treatment ... and not a moment too soon.

I feel the same way. I am amazed at how invested I get into the health of other people's fish on this site.

I still am not sure if I would call it velvet. I believe it to be a combo of a parasite and infection for sure but no 'name' to really call it. I still see a few little flare up areas that look like small pimples ready to pop but no where near as bad as it was a week or so. Cant believe how attached I have got to this fish. Not as much as Porkchop but pretty close.
