Im at that point where I have to ask, when do I just stop? The doxy/kanplex combo showed no improvement at all, in fact looking worse today. I dont know the next treatment to take....

I am into this fish Hundreds of dollars in medications and no improvement. When I first started, some of the meds like Paragard and Triple Sulfa, I saw an immediate response where the condition improved just slightly within the first 24hrs and then by about day five it would flare back up. I have been smart during this time frame and bought meds online and bought ahead with the next step in mind. I lowered the water level in the tank to save money on meds. Basically like a hospital tank without having to pull the fish or move him. I leave on vacation on the 28th of this month so my goal was to kill this before then. But I am at least two months into this stuff and not making progress....

I am almost to the point where I may just have to put it down due to the cost of all these treatments.

So I am looking for the next/possible final treatment....
Here is the list of meds I have used so far:

Showed some improvement:
Seachem Paragard
API Triple Sulfa

Showed NO improvement or seemed to get worse:
Salt-at rate of 2 Tablespoon per gallon
Tetra Fungus Guard + Seachem Kanaplex
Fritz Aquatics Malachite Green
API furan 2 + Seachem Kanaplex
Doxy + Seachem Kanplex

Let me know what you guys suggest.

Does anyone know how long it would take before antibiotic treatment with kanamycine & doxycycline would show some results? Would there be some improvement within 24 hours if it is going to be effective?

My frustration really has been due to the fact this has been ongoing now for about two months and all instructions have been followed to the letter. If it said to dose every day with a 25% water change before each dose, I have been doing it. I also have little post its stuck to the side of the tank with water levels where it needs to be and how much needs to be removed. I have always ran the full treatment time that was listed and in some cases if they said you could redose, I have been doing that. I know the problem is that i have not found the right meds yet but I am running out of extra money to continue on this path. I might be willing to go another $100 into this but no more.

Edited to add some additional info: Fish shows no loss of appetite, does not flash or rub up against anything like it bothers him, no clamped fins, poop is not string or white. Would appear to be a normal healthy Oscar from all behavior. From initial picture it looks like little spots of ich but thee are slightly raised and fuzzy looking. This issues started on one side of the fish and then seemed to work its way to the other.

I wont put it down just yet but I am almost at the limit I can go with money toward this one fish. I noticed something this morning I may have missed. Some lower scales have the look about them that reminds me of dropsy, slightly raised looking. Though no symptoms are matching up i wonder if the bacterial issue is inside and a treatment of Epsom salt bath and an internal med like tetracycline might be the path to pursue. Dropsy is an internal infection of the kidneys and would show as the raised scales...

Dropsy is also a condition that many times is deadly to the fish...

Agreed, try and get ahold of rocksor.

I'd definitely agree that whatever bacterial issue this is, it's probably an internal thing so an oral antibiotic would be the way to go.

I know kanaplex is supposed to be one of those things that should work by being absorbed but Ive had better success with it in the past by putting it into food and getting inside the fish. At this point I am considering that to try and heal the fish from the inside. The kanaplex can be mixed with seachem focus which helps it bind to food. Im just not seeing results from the current mix of doxy/kana.

The problem with trying an antibiotic that you've already used is that the bacteria may well have acquired a resistance to it. I remember rocksor warned me about bacterial resistance to antibiotics when I was underdosing the first antibiotic I tried with my SDs.

Might be well worth a shot nonetheless. Ugh, if I could I'd send you the antibiotic food I gave to my SD.
